Curtis Marrs are super proud to be back working with Noel Gallagher and his epic 'Council Skies' album tour. We were commissioned by Ignition Music to create 6 lyric videos for his album and their accompanying tour visuals. Starting off in the UK, then Europe and the US, his huge tour over 2023 and now back in the UK for arena dates in 2024. Our videos included 'Pretty Boy', 'Easy Now' (art dir Alex Williamson), 'Dead to the World' (art dir Mario Wagner), 'Open the Door' (art dir Chris Curtis), 'Council Skies', 'Think of a Number' (art dir Tim Marrs). Directed by our Chris Curtis. What an epic trip of mixed mixed story telling!

We love making films that really excite us to work on — hopefully it means some people out there will feel the same watching them. The project was developed almost from scratch after the award, it was great to be so creatively open — we loved the challenge of making a unique film that was as much about Birmingham and the fans as it was the athletes.

I’ve always been an athletics fan, from the amazing golden period of Daley Thomson, Cram, Ovett, It was a dream come true to work with today’s greats of Adam Peaty, Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Joe Fraser and bring them into the super weird world of Curtis Marrs.

We received a call from Noel Gallagher’s manager, Marcus Russell (who managed Oasis!). Noel had come across our music videos and thought we’d be perfect for his backgrou

Noel was down to play the main stage at Glastonbury’s 50th anniversary festival, before Paul McCartney headlined. He wanted some bold kick ass video screens to play during his set - which was in the evening and still light.

Our canvas was a ridiculously awesome 18 metre x 10 metre screen. We love working big and this was a real gift that played to our strengths.

We used a heavy mix of rotoscoped footage, crushed and punked up with analogue mark-marking against ultra punchy neon colours. The edits where a high energy mix of trippy repeating jump cuts, looping madness and occasional big cinema camera put outs. All made to keep everyone on their toes. In all we created 30mins of visuals, which was so cool for us to have that length of time to play with each films themes and make these immersive videos, while keeping it ultra fresh and exciting.

We were asked by New York agencies Link9 and Patients & Purpose to create a series of films showcasing patients ‘inner animal spirits’ for Tysabri. With interviews and s

ympathetic FX animation linked to their gestures, the videos culminated in larger-than-life reveals of the animal they each identified with. The scripts were such a refreshing and colourful creative direction for a pharmaceutical campaign that we were instantly hooked. After talking with the patients, we chose and designed animals with the strongest connections to their personalities.

After a two-day shoot in Atlanta and editing in New York, we worked remotely with our team of top animators who specialised in traditional ‘straight ahead’ 2D animation to create the fluid ‘full’ movements that the agency was super keen on. With 20 films in total, we had to make sure everybody was totally happy at each stage of the project before moving on (from line tests, clean up through to colouring) because of the heavily detailed designs and hand-drawn fluid animation, it wasn’t something that could easily be tweaked! It was such a meaningful online and print campaign for us to produce, with its cool combination of visual branding and connectable stories - I think it really elevates and celebrates what they’re achieving at Tysabri.

Our latest film is part of a really rewarding campaign we have worked on with the agency Arthur London for the last couple of years, with videos, social media and OOH. The core idea is to bring a unique perspective and offbeat visual storytelling to what can be quite a conservative approach in the investment advertising world.

We try to do this by making each scene a stand-alone visual moment that connects more obliquely to the script. For practical reasons we used rotoscoped live-action stock, but this meant we could jump between locations and people as much as we wanted, rather than a single location or studio shoot with talent. We also love to ground the M&G world with the natural world using mountains, beaches and clouds to reflect a strong dependable foundation for their ecological approach to investing.
